Sustainability at Vejlsøhus

Sustainability is a natural part of everyday life at Vejlsøhus.
In 2024, we further trained a large part of our staff in sustainable business understanding - and this has triggered a number of concrete initiatives.

Single room - Vejlsøhus

From cardboard to porcelain

Disposable cups are a thing of the past for us.
Instead, we have introduced reusable porcelain mugs in the rooms – actually surplus mugs from our own warehouse, which have now been given new life.
It reduces waste and looks better at the same time.

Less food waste
– without compromising

Our buffet has been redesigned with smaller dishes and more frequent refills – so we minimize food waste, but still ensure that there is always enough food for everyone.

Digital solutions replace print

We have significantly reduced our paper consumption – both at the reception and in the office – with, among other things, digital guest books, receipts by email and fewer printouts for internal meetings.

Apprentice Night

Our students
– an investment in people

We believe in social responsibility and have a strong tradition of educating students and giving them a good start in the industry, whether they are dreaming big or seeking a solid basic education.

Recycling mugs and glasses

Small notes on the tables encourage our students to recycle their glasses and mugs.
It reduces washing up, so we protect the environment.

We clean
– when it makes sense

We have phased out daily cleaning of the rooms and generally only clean upon departure.
It saves both energy and water.

One towel at a time

We no longer change towels in the rooms during guests' stays.
Instead, we offer towel changes if needed.

Comprehensive waste sorting

We have introduced an ambitious waste management system and now sort our waste into 11 fractions.
In this way, we have significantly reduced residual waste and at the same time contributed to increased recycling.

Green electricity

By 2026, the Freshwater Center's entire electricity consumption will be covered by CO₂-neutral wind energy through an agreement on green electricity.
The agreement is documented with a climate certificate from Norlys Energi A/S and based on certificates of origin from Danish wind turbines, which are cancelled by Energinet.
This ensures that the green electricity is only used once and makes a real contribution to the green transition.
For us, it is a natural step towards a more responsible everyday life, where operations and sustainability go hand in hand.

Small steps with big impact

We see all initiatives as small but important steps towards a more sustainable future – and we are constantly working to become even better.

We call it mindfulness in practice. Small choices, every day – that together make a difference.
